Install AG26/46P on Equipment or a Dry-Van Trailer

When you install an AG26/46P on equipment or a dry-van trailer, you utilize the power interface from the pulling or towing vehicle. This enables the AG26/46P to function in real time and operate in battery-saving mode when not connected to the asset power. Review the Equipment and Dry-Van Trailer Cable Matrix for Powered Asset Gateways (AGs) to ensure you obtain the appropriate cable for your configuration.

For installations that utilize the CAN-enabled connector cable, follow the PDF install instructions from the Equipment and Dry-Van Trailer Cable Matrix for Powered Asset Gateways (AGs). For installations that do not use the CAN-enabled connector cable, refer to the following installation instructions for your installation type:

Install an AG26/46P on a Dry Trailer (7-way Install)

To install the AG26/46P on a dry-van trailer:

  1. Activate the device in the Samsara dashboard if you have not already done so.

    Log into the Samsara dashboard or go to https://cloud.samsara.com/activate. You can also follow the link in your Order Shipped email.

  2. Select the desired mounting location and clean thoroughly.

    Tip

    When selecting a location for your device, reference the following tips:

    • Verify that the cable has adequate clearance to reach the AG and the electrical connection.

    • For the most reliable connectivity, ensure that the AG has at least one unobstructed side, facing the sky or ground, for example.

    • Avoid installing the device within metallic structures, such as within metal trailers. Placement in such structures may adversely impact device cellular and GPS connectivity.

  3. Attach mounting plate with adhesive strips. (Optional) Secure with 4 self-tapping screws.

  4. Mount the asset gateway onto a mounting plate with 4 flat-end screws.

  5. Plug the 7-way cable into the AG and twist to secure.

  6. Run the length of the cable to the 7-way connector and use the zip ties to fasten the cable to the trailer.

  7. Connect the other end of the cable to the 7-way connector:

    1. Connect the White wire (ground) to negative.

    2. Connect the Brown wire (head/tail lights) to 12-30 VDC power.

    3. Connect the Blue wire (ABS/Constant Power) to 12-30 VDC power.

  8. Cap any unused wires.

  9. The LED light on the AG illuminates for 30 seconds if the connection is successful. If the light does not turn on, reseat the cable on both connection points and observe the light.

  10. (AG26) For PressurePro installation, connect the 4-pin connector on the 7-way cable to the mating 4-pin connector on the PressurePro Gateway.

  11. Manage the trailer from the Samsara dashboard.

Note

If you observe a cable error when you install the AG with the installer app, disconnect and reconnect the cable to the AG. Ensure the cable is correctly aligned with the 7-way connector and securely locked onto the asset gateway.

Install an AG26/46P on Powered Equipment

When you install an AG26/46P on powered equipment, the powered asset cable harness utilizes the power interface from the asset. After successful installation and connection to the equipment aux inputs (for engine hours), the AG provides real time data to the Samsara dashboard. If power is not available from the asset, the AG will operate off of the internal battery in power-saving mode. The asset gateway can function on an internal battery for up to three months.

Review the Equipment and Dry-Van Trailer Cable Matrix for Powered Asset Gateways (AGs) to ensure you obtain the appropriate cable for your configuration.

To install the AG26/46P on powered equipment:

  1. Activate the device in the Samsara dashboard if you have not already done so.

    Log into the Samsara dashboard or go to https://cloud.samsara.com/activate. You can also follow the link in your Order Shipped email.

  2. Choose a location for installation depending on asset type and use case.

    Tip

    When selecting a location for your device, reference the following tips:

    • Verify that the cable has adequate clearance to reach the AG and the electrical connection.

    • For the most reliable connectivity, ensure that the AG has at least one unobstructed side, facing the sky or ground, for example.

    • Avoid installing the device within metallic structures, such as within metal trailers. Placement in such structures may adversely impact device cellular and GPS connectivity.

  3. Attach the mounting plate using adhesive and the four provided self-tapping screws. Secure the AG to the mounting plate using the four provided flat-end screws.

  4. Plug the cable into the AG and twist to secure.

  5. Connect the other end of the cable to power using one of the following options:

    • Use the CBL-AG-A9PIN, CBL-AG-ACT9, or CBL-AG-ACT14 cables. Connect the cable end to the CAN bus tied to the ECU.

    • Use the CBL-AG-APWR cable connection to draw full power from the equipment battery when the equipment is running. This cable switches to the AG26/46P's own internal battery when the activation signal is off.

      Warning

      Do not modify the CBL-AG-APWR cable unless explicitly instructed by Samsara to do so. Modification can cause the AG to remain continuously powered which may drain the asset battery.

      1. Connect the red Power wire to the continuous 12-30 VDC power source (for example a battery positive terminal).

      2. Connect the black Ground wire to the ground (for example a negative battery terminal).

      3. Connect the yellow Ignition wire to the switched power source or any 6-30 VDC signal on the equipment. If the yellow wire is too short, extend it using the accessory wire.

        When the ignition is off, the relay prevents vehicle power drain.

      4. Configure an Auxiliary Input in the gateway settings to track engine hours.

    The LED on the asset gateway illuminates when activated.

  6. (Optional) Use the provided zip ties to ensure that the cable does not obstruct activity.

  7. Verify successful connection in the Samsara dashboard (Overview > Assets > Equipment).

Note

If you observe a cable error when you install the AG with the installer app, disconnect and reconnect the cable to the AG. Ensure the cable is correctly aligned with the 7-way connector and securely locked onto the asset gateway.
