AG26/AG46P Powered Asset Gateway (AG) Troubleshooting

The powered asset AG26/AG46P Asset IoT Gateways are ideal for monitoring dry-van and refrigerated trailers, heavy equipment, and high-value mobile assets. If you experience an unexpected gateway behavior after you follow the instructions to activate and install, reference the following topics to troubleshoot your issue.

Reefer showing as Unpowered asset

1. Verify Carrier or Thermo King compatibility.

2. Verify the cable is securely connected to the asset gateway.

3. Review the installation instructions for Asset Gateways (AGs) for Powered Assets and Asset Gateway (AG) Asset Type Assignment.

4. If the reefer is a compatible model and still reading incorrectly, contact Support.

Cannot remotely activate reefer

1. Verify Carrier or Thermo King compatibility.

2. Confirm that are either a full admin, standard admin, or have reefer control custom role privileges to access this feature.

3. (Carrier installation) Ensure the micro switch is on and that the AG is receiving power. Review the installation instructions for Asset Gateways (AGs) for Powered Assets.

4. If possible, test a different asset gateway or different cable to ensure that the trailer is providing adequate power.

5. Check for corrosion on pins of pigtail.

Gaps in asset trip history

1. Verify the installation: Ensure that the blue wire is properly connected to ABS power (center pin on most trailers) and that the white wire (ground connection) is properly connected. Review the installation instructions for Asset Gateways (AGs) for Powered Assets.

2. Complete a hard reboot: Unplug the cable from the bottom of the AG and immediately plug it back in. 

3. If possible, test a different AG or different cable to ensure that the trailer is providing adequate power.

Tethered asset (reefer, dry van, powered asset) reporting as Untethered

1. Verify the installation: Ensure that the blue wire is properly connected to ABS power (center pin on most trailers) and that the white wire (ground connection) is properly connected. Review the installation instructions for Asset Gateways (AGs) for Powered Assets.

2. Complete a hard reboot: Unplug the cable from the bottom of the AG and immediately plug it back in. 

3. If possible, test a different AG or different cable to ensure that the trailer is providing adequate power.

Fails to connect (blinking or solid orange light)

1. Check the AT&T data coverage map to ensure the device is in a covered service area. Relocate the device if necessary.

2. Complete a hard reboot: Unplug the cable from the bottom of the AG and immediately plug it back in. 

3. If possible, test a different AG or different cable to ensure that the trailer is providing adequate power.

Reporting as Unplugged

1. Verify the installation: Review the installation instructions for Asset Gateways (AGs) for Powered Assets.

2. Complete a hard reboot: Unplug the cable from the bottom of the AG and immediately plug it back in. 

3. Physically inspect the AG and cable for visible damage. To confirm if water ingress is present, shake the AG and listen for water.

Reporting as Low Gateway Battery

1. Verify the Asset Gateway Power Loss Settings.

   If the AG power is depleting at a higher rate than anticipated, Samsara recommends setting a less frequent check-in rate.

2. Verify the AG is receiving power from the asset and has received power in the last two weeks.

3. Complete a hard reboot: Unplug the cable from the bottom of the AG and immediately plug it back in. 

4. Physically inspect the AG and cable for visible damage. To confirm if water ingress is present, shake the AG and listen for water.

Reporting as Requires Investigation

1. Verify AG activation and installation.

2. Verify the AG is receiving power from the asset. Ensure that the LED on the AG is green.

   The AG needs to receive power to properly activate. If the no light displays, follow the steps for troubleshooting Unplugged or Low Gateway Battery.

3. Complete a hard reboot: Unplug the cable from the bottom of the AG and immediately plug it back in. 

4. Physically inspect the AG and cable for visible damage.
