Samsara Driver App Location-Based Vehicle Selection

From the Samsara Driver App, drivers may have one or both of the following views when selecting a vehicle:

• Recently Selected Vehicles: Displays up to three vehicles selected by the driver in the last 30 days. Hidden if no vehicles meet this criteria.

• All Vehicles: Displays all vehicles sorted by proximity including the distance to the vehicle.

To reduce driver error and encourage drivers to select vehicles in close proximity, you can restrict vehicle selection based on location. Proximity-Based Vehicle Selection enhances the vehicle selection process in the Samsara Driver App by sorting available vehicles based on proximity rather than alphabetically. This update improves usability for drivers and ensures better compliance with admin-configured location-based selection settings.

After this setting is enabled, drivers must select vehicles that are within a predefined radius from the driver location. You can use this settings along with a Driver App Workflow to prevent drivers from selecting vehicles outside their proximity.

Note

This feature is recommended only for drivers that have GPS or network connectivity. Driver will not be able to view or select vehicles outside of this radius.

To enable location-based vehicle selection in the Samsara Driver App:

1. Select the Settings icon () at the bottom of your Fleet menu to view dashboard settings.

2. Select Fleet > Driver App > General.

3. Enable the option to Restrict vehicle selection based on location.

   

   By default, drivers are limited to a vehicle selection within a radius of 100 meters from their position. You can also expand the selection radius to 500 meters from the driver position.

4. Ensure the changes are correct before you navigate away from the Driver App settings.

   Any changes you make to the Driver App settings save automatically.
