Custom Report Datasets and Default Fields

Your Samsara dashboard data is organized into multiple datasets. As you build custom reports, it will be helpful to understand which datasets are available and what kind of information each dataset contains.

The following table summarizes each available dataset and its default fields. Note that the default columns provide needed data, and removing a default column may cause the report to be unclear.

Addresses	Gather information related to the addresses and geofences set up in your dashboard.	None	Name: The name given to the address. Address: The details of a specific location provided as a formatted address. Tag Name: The tags assigned to an Address Book entry. Geofence Type: The type of geofence used, either Normal, Yard, Risk Zone, or Alerts Only.
Assets	Analyze asset performance and status to help improve fleet efficiency.	Report maximum time frame: 12 months (365 days)	Name: The name given to the asset record. Tag: Name: The tags assigned to an asset. Last Known Location: The last known location of the asset. The location may be a geofence or an approximated street address. Distance: The total distance traveled in the reporting time frame, calculated by vehicle odometer readings when available or by GPS when odometer values are not available. Stops: The number of stops made within the reporting time frame. Start Odometer (GPS/ECU): The starting value on the odometer for the reporting time frame.  End Odometer (GPS/ECU): The ending value on the odometer for the reporting time frame.
Devices	Monitor hardware manufactured by Samsara that collects data or controls an asset.		Model: The variant of the device (AG51, AT11, etc.). Device Serial: The unique serial number associated with the device. Type: The classification of the device (gateway, cameras, etc.).
Drivers	Evaluate driver activity and performance to help improve fleet safety and efficiency.	Report maximum time frame: 12 months (365 days)	Name: The name of the driver as set in the driver record. Tag: Name: The tags assigned to a driver. Safety Score: A calculated value used to measure driving behavior and performance in the reporting time frame. Eco Driving Score: A calculated value used to measure driving behavior and performance in the reporting time frame. Distance: The total distance traveled in the reporting time frame, calculated by vehicle odometer readings when available or by GPS when odometer values are not available. Deactivation Status: Indicates driver status - active or deactivated. Deactivated driver data is available for compliance reporting. Note To display active drivers only, add a filter while editing your report to exclude deactivated driver data.
DVIRs	Review DVIR submissions in your organization.	Report maximum time frame: 3 months (92 days)	Type: The type of DVIR submitted. Vehicle: Name: The name given to the asset record. Trailer: Name: The name given to the asset record. Driver: Name: The name of the driver as set in the driver record. Signed At: Timestamp indicating when the DVIR has been signed. Duration: The duration of the DVIR. Status: The status of the DVIR.
HoS Logs	Report on hours of service driving segments to help monitor compliance and improve fleet efficiency.	Report maximum time frame: 3 months (92 days)	Start Time: The time at which the hours of service driving segment began. End Time: The time at which the hours of service driving segment ended. Driver Name: The name of the driver as set in the driver record. Asset Name: The name given to the asset record. Duration: The amount of time between the start and end time period. HoS Status: The status of the asset or driver, if known. Off Duty, Sleeper Berth, Driving, On Duty, Yard Move, or Personal Conveyance are the available statuses. Note You may notice differences in the Sleeper Berth column when comparing standard reports to advanced custom reports. The difference is due to how each report handles time granularity. Standard reports round down durations to the nearest minute and do not display seconds. Advanced custom reports display durations with second-level granularity, providing more precise time values. For example, if a driver has a Sleeper Berth log of 43 seconds, standard reports will show 0:00, while advanced custom reports will display the full 0:00:43. This behavior is expected and reflects the increased precision available with advanced custom reports.
HoS Unassigned Segments			Asset: Name: The name given to the asset record. Asset: Tag: Name: The tags assigned to an asset. Start Time: The time at which the hours of service driving segment began. Duration: The total duration of the hours of service driving segment. Annotation: Engine Time: Previous Driver Name: Next Driver Name:
HoS Violations	Monitor and analyze hours of service violations across different violation types (including shift limits, missed breaks, and missing certifications), time periods, and individual drivers.		Driver: Name: The name of the driver as set in the driver record Driver: Tag: Name: The tags assigned to the driver. Violation Type: The type of hours of service violation that occurred, including shift limits, missed breaks, and missing certifications. Start Time: The time of day when the violation first occurred. End Time: The time of day when the violation ended. Duration: The amount of time the driver was in violation. This period begins when the violation starts and ends either at the conclusion of the defined violation time window (for example, shift driving hours) or at the end of the day. For certain violations, such as unsubmitted logs, the duration may span the entire day.
Idle Events	Identify periods of idle activity to help monitor and improve fleet efficiency.		Idle Event Duration: The total duration of the idle event. Idle Event End Time: The time at which the idle event started. Idle Event Start Time: The time at which the idle event ended.
Odometer Jumps	Review incidents pertaining to unexpected jumps or gaps in odometer values while a vehicle gateway was powered off.	Report maximum time frame: 6 months (183 days)	Asset: Name: The name given to the asset record. Asset Turned Off At Time: The time at which the VG was turned off. Asset Turned On At Time: The time at which the VG was turned on. Previous Driver: Name: The name of the driver as set in the driver record. Next Driver: Name: The name of the driver as set in the driver record. Location Before Odometer Jump: The last location detected before the VG had been switched off. Location After Odometer Jump: The first detected location at the time the VG had been turned on again. ECM Odometer Value Before Jump: The ECM odometer value recorded before the VG had been turned off. ECM Odometer Value After Jump: The ECM odometer value recorded after the VG had been turned off. ECM Odometer Jump: The asset odometer difference detected between the asset having the VG turned off and turned in again. Asset: Tag: Name: The tags assigned to an asset.
Safety Events	Report on safety trends across your fleet, including harsh driving events, tailgating, and more. To report on speeding trends across your fleet, use the Speeding Intervals dataset instead.	Report maximum time frame: 6 months (183 days)	Time: The time at which a safety event was logged. Driver Name: The name of the driver as set in the driver record. Asset Name: The name given to the asset record. Behavior Label: Descriptive metadata that can be associated with an event to help describe what is happening.
Speeding Intervals	Monitor speeding trends associated with assets or drivers in your fleet.	Report maximum time frame: 3 months (92 days)	Start Time: The time at which a speeding interval started. End Time: The time at which a speeding interval ended. Driver Name: The name of the driver as set in the driver record. Asset Name: The name given to the asset record. Speeding Category: Returns the associated speeding severity category - Light, Moderate, Heavy, Severe. Top Speed: The highest speed reached during the reporting time frame or interval. Posted Speed Limit: The maximum legal speed for a specific location on a road as indicated by a sign, also known as a regulatory speed limit. Street Address: The street address representing where the speeding interval began.
Trips	Review trip details to help track driving habits and reconstruct asset movement.	Report maximum time frame: 3 months (92 days)	Start Time: The time at which the trip started. End Time: The time at which the trip ended. Asset: Name: The name given to the asset record. Asset: Tag: Name: The tags assigned to an asset. Starting GPS Address: The starting location for the trip. End Address Id: A unique identifier representing the starting location of a trip. Ending GPS Address: The ending location for the trip. Distance: The distance traveled during the duration of the trip segment, calculated from GPS data.
Users	Report on basic information about users in your dashboard and for reviewing coaching effectiveness.	None	Name: The name associated to the user record. Email: The email address associated to the user record.
